The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Certificate Program is providing EDI learning opportunities to students. The program has a particular focus on providing students with skills to navigate cultural differences, communicate effectively across differences, and take actions to dismantle systemic barriers in our community. With completion of the program, students gain confidence, build community and have access to integrated wellness resources. Furthermore, students will feel supported in improving their motivation, engagement in learning and mental health, while creating safe spaces where students can establish meaningful social connections to help them thrive as current Western students and leaders of the future.

With the support of the Parr Centre for Thriving, two certificate programs have been developed: the Anti-Racism Foundations Certificate Program and the Anti-Oppression Certificate Program. Each program is comprised of 12 interactive and high-quality e-learning modules and workshops.

  • 9 online modules are now available to Western Students to learn about EDI-related topics at their own pace.
  • 52 students completed the Anti-Racism Foundations Certificate Program launched in September 2023.
  • 326 students completed the anti-racism foundational e-learning modules launched in May 2023.
  • 463 students participated in workshops to learn about anti-racism, microaggressions and allyship towards equity-deserving groups.
  • 44 PhD candidates participated in a workshop on inclusive leadership and accessibility offered by the Office of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion as part of Own Your Future.
  • 5 new modules will be launched in Fall 2024.
